Can Backyard Putting Greens in Dallas hold a golf shot?
Grass!365 Dallas knows how to maximize your property and build you an awesome putting green and backyard short game practice area.
Some like to say backyard putting greens cannot hold a golf shot or don’t putt true. Well for over two decades we have been blowing that myth out of the water with superior backyard putting green surfaces that hold shots up to 180 yards away and roll as smooth as championship golf greens.
It all starts with our love of golf and the desire to practice golf shots right out the back door. The famous golf architect C.B. MacDonald once said “I have always wanted to live where one could practice golf shots in one’s pajamas.” Well we have created hundreds of those scenarios and would love to help you create a truly great backyard experience with your beloved putter and 60 degree wedge.
Natural grass golf greens are made of 15-18 inches of what is called greens mix. This allows for deep roots and a healthy plant. The top of the plant only sticks up a few millimeters above the sand and for the most part is bent over. Grass365 of Dallas mimics these conditions with our golf green system in just a few inches. Backyard putting greens can hold shots and Dallas with its great golfing weather 9 months out of the year is a great place of these installations.
How do backyard putting greens hold a shot?
Building a synthetic grass putting green that will hold a golf shot and react properly requires the correct system. First you need the base to help you and no hinder the breaking of the momentum of the golf shot. This is done by ensuring the slope of the green is back towards the teeing ground. Next you need a padding below the turf that creates a suspension system so the impact is cradled. Think of this like the shocks on your car when you hit a bump, the tires and the shocks take the impact so the frame of the car and therfore your seat move a fraction of the amount these important parts moved. Lastly you need the infill sand to be of proper size and shape, ensuring movement of the sand in such a way the golf ball stops and does not rebound. The sand helps hold the ball much like a runaway truck ramp would stop a semi out of control down a mountain. The ball imacts the sand and stops.
Do Backyard Putting Greens putt like real grass?
To create putting greens that roll true, first, you have to know how to build a base that allows the turf to be smooth like a natural grass golf green. Second, you have to have the correct turf and the correct infill. Third yoou have to know what rolling true even means and what to look for during the installation. Manipulation of the turf fibers along with installing the correct infill to the correct height give you a fighting chance at a true roll. The final step is to get the tips of the turf to lay over in all directions like a bent grass golf green. Trust in a company that has done this for decades and knows how to install greens that roll true.
