Meet David Foster

Grass!365 Charleston owner David Foster, born and raised in Schomberg, Ontario, Canada, moved to Charleston in September of 1989 – just weeks before Hurricane Hugo changed the Charleston landscape forever. That inauspicious beginning was not enough to deter him, and nearly 30 years later, Charleston is home to David, his wife Brandy and their children Graydon and Hyland, who both attend Buist Academy downtown.

After careers in golf and retail store construction, David chose Grass!365 to stay close to home and his family, combining his skills in one business. David will walk you through your artificial turf project from concept to completion, solving your turf problems and giving you a beautiful and functional lawn,  playground or  putting green.

“Grass!365 offers superior SealTurf turf and certified expert installation for both commercial and residential applications.  We look forward to helping you with your project.”

  • In Charleston, we experience over 50 inches of rain annually, and our winters are cool enough to cause warm-season grasses like Bermuda and zoysia to go dormant, turning brown. Managing natural grass in high-traffic commercial areas under these conditions is extremely challenging.   Grass!365 has provided solutions for numerous commercial retail spaces by installing [...]

FAQs

Drainage is key to any artificial grass installation.  First, you never want water flowing onto an artificial grass surface.  Water will bring dirt and debris which leads to mold and mildew canceling out the low maintenance benefit of installing such a surface.  So we want to keep as much water off an artificial turf installation as possible by either diverting the water around the area or capturing it prior to flowing onto the turf.  Secondly the base of the installation must be sloped in such a way that water flows in the opposite direction of houses, pools or other buildings.  Finally, we can actually install aggregate bases that can capture rain water for storage or to simply help it vacate the area.  Expert design and installation are the two key factors here and leaving this up to inexperienced companies is not advised.

This question normally starts from a warranty standpoint.  Bottom line is, you can leave artificial turf in an area indefinitely.  At some point the force of gravity will bend the turf fibers over.  We do have power brooms that sweep the turf, not only to clean debris from the surface but also to rejuvenate the fibers to get them standing back up.  This process normally takes less than an hour and can really help the look of the installation.  Synthetic grass is made to last outdoors for many years under heavy use.   You get to decide when the aesthetics require you to replace the turf.

Yes, but very little.  No turf surface is maintenance free.  For example, we don’t know of a turf installation that can blow itself off.   The main theme is to keep it clean.  Remove any debris that may have fallen during storms or droppings from trees.  Blowing off leaves or pine straw regularly is suggested. Brush the fibers from time to time to remove any small debris that may have fallen down in the fibers and to help stand the turf up from high traffic.

Low maintenance is the best way to describe a properly designed and installed artificial grass installation.

Grass!365 utilizes SealTuft technology when manufacturing our turf.   SealTuft leaves voids between the stitch rows of the yarn so our turf drains at over 1,000 inches per hour.  We don’t know of any other turf on the market that even comes close.  Getting urine washed through the turf is one way to manage odors.  Picking up any droppings daily when they occur also helps to reduce odors.

The size of the installation versus the number of dogs along with the size of the dogs will determine other strategies.  Aggregate bases, drain tiles, irrigation and infill products are all part of the design process for a proper pet turf installation.

If you have a small yard and a bunch of big dogs and don’t pick up droppings daily, your backyard may smell from time to time, just as if you had natural grass or mulch beds.

Many factors come into play and through an investigation of your situation and property, we can design the very best system for your and your pets.   We can set expectations for maintenance, odors and design maintenance procedures for the area.

Pets and properties benefit from great artificial grass installations.  We look forward to helping you, your family, your business and your furry friends with a Pet Turf installation.
